Wiring through the wall is not a job that often have to be done, but how can you do this if it is necessary? The cables need to be pulled usually when you move into a new house. Finally, you need cables for TV and electricity. Pulling cables is anyway easy to implement if you with two or more people but it’s not always easy.
Why cables through the wall?
Pulling cable through the wall is not a job that often have to happen, but needs to be done especially if you move to another house. If you have as many cables for tv / internet, all of them do not have to be visible to lie in the house, but they are stored neatly and securely. If the cables are once pulled through the wall, years after, nothing more to do. While it can sometimes be difficult, it is definitely worth pulling cables.
The tension spring
In order to pull cables through the wall, you can use a tension spring. A tension spring is available in nylon and metal. The nylon version sometimes moves slightly smoother, but with a metal spring, you can purchase more tools to create more chances of success in pulling the cables. A tension spring costs depending on the length, material, and is often between 10 and 30 Euros.
Pull the spring out of the wall
Usually you will find all conduits in the cupboard. You do not know in advance where it will go in the trough of the house. You, therefore, will need two more person to pull cables. One pushes the spring in the cable channel and the other looks at the outlets where the spring comes out. Of course you will find out where the spring may come out to have empty before you start all places in the wall. It is also important that there is not a cable is plugged into the outlet. You should pull all the wires at the same time through the wall so you can not damage any other wires. So first you just pull the spring out of the wall without cables. It is useful if you then note the cable channel which suits if you ever want to pull cables.
Attaching the wires
Where the spring on the other side of the wall can come through, the wires can be attached. With electrical wires, strip one thread about 10 centimeters, this wrap around the ring of the spring so that it is secure. With the other wires, strip approximately 5 cm and wrap the wire around 10 centimeters. Make sure that the wire is as thin as possible and you will not get big bulge wiring. If the wires has been attached together if you want to draw another line you can start from the spring with taping. You can use electrical tape. You begin about 10 to 15 centimeters from the end from the tension spring which is wrapped with tape. You are going on to the tape over the wires to go through so that the wire which is fixed to the tension spring which is also about 10 to 15 centimeters is covered. Thus you have the slightest chance that the wiring comes off the spring and there is less chance that the thread may catch on something. Push the cable long enough that the other through the cable may further draw from on the other side. Make sure the cable is long enough, because if you lost it once the spring can be difficult to continue to pull the cable into a small piece.
If the cable sticks
Feel free to put what thrust the spring when the cable is stuck. Often the tension spring helps to withdraw the cable and push it back in. If you will not go in a meter beyond a certain point, you can also try the spring to further get through a hole in the wall. Sometimes the tension spring on the other side goes well beyond that point.
If the cable lingers on the thicker part at the tape you can get it from the spring again, then lubricate the thicker part. This ensures that the thicker portion is smoother making it more easily through the bends will come.
With a metal tension spring, you can also use a tension spring pump. Since you probably will not use this very often, you can rent one at the hardware store. A spring pump ensures that there is more pressure put on the cable.
